A residential complex constructed by ArchiCO LLC for refugee and internally displaced families has been inaugurated in Sumgayit city. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony. Chairman of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP Affairs, Rovshan Rzayev, and Director of ArchiCO LLC, the project's executor Muhammad Musayev, briefed the President and the First Lady on the completed works. Construction of the complex, located on Koroglu Avenue in the city center, commenced in March 2017. Built in a distinctive architectural style and to modern standards, the complex is designed to accommodate 1,005 refugee and IDP families. Covering an area of 4 hectares, it comprises a total of 12 buildings, including eight 8-story and four 15-story structures. The complex also features a school, kindergarten, community center, police station, and other essential infrastructure facilities. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva familiarized themselves with the conditions created in the apartments. All apartments are fully renovated and equipped with kitchen furniture and gas stoves. Additionally, centralized internet and television networks have been installed in the apartments. Of the 1,005 apartments in the complex, 167 are one-room, 536 are two-room, and 302 are three- and four-room units. To provide residents with recreational opportunities, two leisure areas have been established, and a children's playground has been installed. Landscaping and beautification work have been carried out on 67 percent of the complex's total area. Given the complex's central location in Sumgayit, it has been constructed in harmony with the city's architectural style, with particular attention paid to the building facades and the installation of uniquely styled windows. During the project's implementation, an additional four-story building was constructed for School No. 21, located in the 12th microdistrict of Sumgayit. The existing building's facade and roof were completely renovated. The new building, designed to accommodate 540 students, includes 21 classrooms and offers comprehensive facilities to ensure high-quality education. This project exemplifies the Azerbaijani government's commitment to the education and intellectual development of refugee and internally displaced children. It also reflects the broader efforts to enhance the country's educational infrastructure and resources. Furthermore, a 50-seat kindergarten has been built within the complex, providing all necessary conditions for the education, rest, and entertainment of young children. All of this proves that President Ilham Aliyev approaches the resolution of the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced persons with special care and consistently keeps this issue at the forefront of attention. The head of our state has identified the solution of the social problems of refugees and internally displaced persons as one of the main directions of the state’s social policy. In recent years, settlements equipped with all necessary infrastructure have been established and multi-story buildings have been constructed for refugees and internally displaced persons. Significant work has also been carried out to ensure their health, improve their social conditions, increase employment opportunities, and address other related issues. The projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation also contribute to these efforts. Overall, the measures taken by the Azerbaijani government to resolve the social issues of refugees and internally displaced persons represent a very rare practice worldwide. This experience is highly valued by all international organizations and is widely utilized.
